With the mission of engaging audiences in creative and authentic ways, the flute quintet In Radiance transforms the traditional concert setting. Audience members no longer sit in their chairs and passively receive a performance: They will become involved with the music, performances, and performers themselves, and experience music as artists.

In Radiance breaks the stereotypes of concert settings by using concerts to reach out to audiences. During these performances, audience members become active participants and create meaningful experiences. This distinguishes them from other ensembles who follow the standard concert format, which has a tendency to neglect the audience in exchange for formal concert traditions.

What does an in Radiance concert sound like?

We are glad you asked! Here are two examples of concerts we program:

Leaping Neurons: This program is based on the initial inspiration for the piece Across the Synapse by Paul Sayed - neurons firing across synapses to pass on signals. Leaping Neurons begins with an interactive experience with Across the Synapse. Audience members will explore how the developing and changing motifs can be traced across the ensemble through the stereo staging of this piece. The rest of the program features pieces that are paired together by a single concept but are represented in different ways. These pairs mirror how our brain can take us from one idea to the next, just as neurons communicate through synapses.

Journey Through the Genres: This program is inspired by In Radiance’s EP of the same title, showcasing the varied genres that the ensemble performs. Repertoire includes:

  • The Overture to the Barber of Seville, Gioachino Rossini arr. Richard McHenry

  • Voices of Venezuela, Trad. arr. Gudrun Hinze

  • Say Something, Pentatonix arr. Joanne Wheeler

  • Tico Tico, Zequinha de Abreu arr. April Cheung

  • Nimbus 2000, John Williams arr. Bobby Lapinski

  • The Lord of the Rings, Howard Shore arr. Joanne Wheeler

  • Slavonic Dances No. 2, Antonín Dvořák arr. Bobby Lapinski

  • Daft Punk, Pentatonix arr. April Cheung

  • *New* Original Composition, by In Radiance
